A family house, villa or summer house are exactly the types that served all reformers and avant-garde practitioners of the 20th century as a field for the exploration of spatial, material and formal phenomena. We recall with respect famous icons, beacons of 20th century culture: Loos’s Tzara and Müller houses; most prominent of all, the Villa Savoye; Rietveld’s Schröder house; Neutra’s and Schindler’s Californian villas: Mies’s Farnsworth and Tugendhat villas; and, of course, Fallingwater or the Nordic Villa Mairea, and all the way to Kiesler’s Endless House which could be realized in reality only by means of the planning and technology of today.
